Department “Remote Sensing and GIS”, Space Research and Technology Institute – Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (SRTI-BAS) (Sofia, Bulgaria) and Comprehensive School “Ivan Vazov”, (Pleven, Bulgaria) co-organized the 3rd Summer School EEOBSS. It was held from 3rd to 5th of October in “Europe” Hall at CS “Ivan Vazov”, Pleven. Students from 9th to 12th grade from CS “Ivan Vazov”, Mathematics Gymnasium “Geo Milev” and PGECT “prof. Asen Zlatarov” were acquainted with the methods of exploration of the Earth from Space.
The first day of the program began with an “Introduction to Remote Sensing”. Lecturer was Prof. DST Garo Mardirosian. The students explored the different satellite orbits as well as the satellites used to monitor our Planet.
The next day of the Project through a presentation Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lachezar Filchev acquainted the audience with the resolution and the basic principles of “Visual Interpretation of Images” and “Image Processing”. After a short break the students went to a practical activity in the computer lab. They examined satellite imagery and image metadata of the Sentinel and Landsat satellites using the LEOWorks Program (ESA).
The last day passed with a theoretical presentation of GPS and GNSS. The basic principles and their practical applications were presented by Prof. DST Dimitar Dimitrov.
