On February 26, 2019 in Hall “Prof. Ivan. Ev. Geshov “of the BAS administration was presented the teaching aid “Earth Observation Earth from space”. The tutorial is intended for independent preparation in the extracurricular activities of natural sciences and is created under the EEOBSS Project of the Space Research and Technologies Institute at BAS (SRTI-BAS) and the European Space Agency. Participants in the Project were present, the management of SRTI-BAS led by the director Prof. Dr. Eng. Rumen Nedkov, representatives of the Ministry of Economy, directors of schools, teachers and students.
Special guest of the event was general Dr. Aleksandar Alexandrov – cosmonaut of Republic of Bulgaria, who told a fascinating audience about the medical-biological aspects of cosmonauts’ flight, as well as his personal observations from the Space of our home – the Earth.
The authors of the handbook – Prof. D.Sc. Ing. Garo Mardirossian (SRTI-BAS), Prof. D.Sc. Ing. Dimitar Dimitrov (NIGGG-BAS) and Dr. Ioannis Manakos (CERTH-ITI), briefly told about the modules developed by them and their personal impressions of the work on the Project. The responsible editor and project manager of EEOBSS – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lachezar Filchev – summed up the work on the Project and the creation of the Tutorial.
Senior expert at the Ministry of Economy Petya Piperkova told briefly about the activities of the Ministry and the ESA-PECS programme for Bulgaria, on which the EEOBSS project is implemented. It was noted that the education and training of the young people are a national priority in the ESA-PECS programme for Bulgaria, which will support the development and formation of the nascent space sector of the Bulgarian economy.
Dr. Lilia Stoyanova – Director of 7 Secondary School “Kuzman Shapkarev” in Blagoevgrad, which hosted the first summer school EEOBSS in September 2017, thanked for the invitation and the opportunity to participate in the Project, and wished the team success and inspiration for new joint initiatives.
The second part of the event was related to the awarding of prizes and certificates for participation of students from the metropolitan schools participating in the fifth school EEOBSS. It was held in the “Paisii Hilendarski” SMG in November-December 2018, and was organized jointly with the courtesy of the management of the SMG “Paisii Hilendarski” executive director Dr. Antoine Tonev and the club “Bulgarian Interplanetary Society” at SMG with head Mr. Petyo Manev. With the slides awards were awarded three student projects developed by the participants in the fifth school EEOBSS.
Traditionally, the presentation of the educational aid EEOBSS ended with a general photo and a modest cocktail.
